Thanksgiving, or “Stuff Your Face Until Your Belly Hurts Day,” is right around the corner. There’s no better way to feel great about the things you have than to eat lots of good food with friends and family and no Thanksgiving dinner would be complete without these amazing dishes.  So, in the spirit of the season, check out this undeniable power of classic Thanksgiving dishes.

Macaroni and Cheese

Mac and cheese are delicious regardless of the occasion. It’s an absolute must-have especially if you have kids and people who don’t like fall foods. Few things are more comforting than a gooey, creamy, and perfectly cheesy homemade mac and cheese. It’s a truly underrated Thanksgiving side.

Stuffing

Stuffing is a Thanksgiving essential. Bread’s version of mashed potatoes can be eaten as a meal unto itself weeks after Thanksgiving. It’s savory, perfectly crisp, and yet delightfully fluffy and moist. Sage, thyme, and other quintessential fall flavors are out in full force.

Brussel Sprouts

Our mouths are watering just thinking about having a piping hot bowl of these brussels sprouts sitting on our Thanksgiving table. Though this divisive vegetable may elicit groans and complaints from the younger set at Thanksgiving, when perfectly roasted and doctored up with bacon and some maple syrup, these mini cabbages go from “I’ll pass” to “pass them here.”

Sweet Potato Casserole

When it comes to Thanksgiving, you just can’t beat sweet potato casserole. Sweet potato casserole emerged from the South to become a bona fide Thanksgiving classic. Though some may find this dish a little too sweet to be on a dinner plate, it’s hard to pass on a side with fluffy marshmallows in it.

Green Bean Casserole

The epitome of Thanksgiving. Green bean casserole is salty and creamy and features those irresistible crispy little onions. Whether you go with the old-school canned green bean casserole or decide to class this dish up with an all-fresh version, there’s no way to go wrong with this traditional dish, and its popularity reflects that.

Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry fans will ask for this sauce again and again. Some love the jellied, canned cranberry sauce, others prefer to make their own. Whatever cranberry sauce you have on your plate, this dish perfectly embodies the late fall. With its superb dark red color and perfect acidulation, cranberry sauce is necessary to complete any Thanksgiving plate.

Rolls

What other dish will be able to soak up all that savory, rich gravy that has spilled over from your turkey and mashed potatoes? What other dish will serve as a perfect palate cleanser between the macaroni and cheese and the turkey? None but the roll.

Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are the best and the only dish on this list you would eat with a regular meal during the year. Mashed potatoes are a staple side for many families throughout the year, but Thanksgiving is really time for these creamy, fluffy, pillowy piles of heaven to shine. It’s the perfect vessel for holding a big ol’ vat of gravy. It’s everything you ever needed and wanted. It’s the best side of Thanksgiving.

Gravy

Gravy is technically a condiment, but it can go on so many foods, Thanksgiving or otherwise, that it can be considered its own dish. It’s a versatile concoction of salty goodness. Your Thanksgiving deserves the best.

Turkey

Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same without the turkey. Turkey makes Thanksgiving. Whether it is some juicy white meat or some rich dark meat, you should definitely pile this Thanksgiving staple high on your plate.
