Fall is the perfect time to get outdoors, make memories, and embrace the spooky season. In the Lowcountry—between Hilton Head, Bluffton, and Beaufort—you don’t have to travel far to find pumpkins, hayrides, corn mazes, and haunted thrills. Below is a guide to the best spots to check out this autumn, along with tips for making the most of your visits.

Pumpkin Patches & Hayrides You’ll Love

Dempsey Farms (St. Helena Island, near Beaufort)

  • Offers pumpkin picking in the field (u-pick or from the farmstand), tractor hayrides, a corn maze, and fall vegetables.

  • Pumpkins tend to be ready by the last week of September.

  • Address: 1576 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena Island, SC (around 11 miles east of Beaufort on US-21)

Cahill’s Market Pumpkin Patch (Bluffton, SC)

  • A local favorite patch for pumpkins, gourds, mums, and fall décor.

  • In past years, they’ve also had a hay pyramid for kids and even a haunted trail after dusk. South Carolina Lowcountry

  • Address: 1055 May River Road, Bluffton, SC.

The Island Rec Center’s Pumpkin Patch Event (Hilton Head)

  • A seasonal public event held at Shelter Cove Community Park.

  • Features a field of pumpkins (kids can pick, paint, or decorate), hayrides, bounce houses, vendors, costume contests, and games.

  • Traditionally held for a few hours, often in October.

Holiday Farms – The Great Pumpkin Patch

  • Though a bit of a drive, it’s often included in the Lowcountry pumpkin patch roundups.
  • October 3–31, 2025: Corn maze, barrel train rides, farm animals, general store with local goods, and more.

Haunted Attractions & Spooky Experiences

Boone Hall Fright Nights

  • Not directly in Beaufort or Bluffton, but it’s a popular regional haunted attraction to consider.
  • Three major haunted attractions in one venue, with strong scare elements—best for teens and adults.

Local Haunted Houses & Ghost Tours

  • In Bluffton, Cahill’s Market has historically hosted a haunted trail after dusk during its fall patch events.
  • In Beaufort, local historic homes and community groups sometimes host haunted house fundraisers. For instance, “The Castle” in Beaufort has previously held a haunted house event at a historic home.
  • Also keep an eye on Ghost Walks / Ghost Tours in Hilton Head and Beaufort—especially as Halloween approaches.

Tips for a Great Fall Visit

  • Check dates & hours in advance — Many patches and haunted attractions only run on weekends or by reservation.

  • Buy tickets early — Popular events often sell out.

  • Arrive early — For better pumpkin selections and to enjoy all activities before dark.

  • Dress appropriately — Bring layers, especially for evening visits; and wear comfortable shoes.

  • Check age suitability — Haunted attractions can be intense—some are not recommended for younger children.

  • Support local — Visiting these farms and events supports small businesses around the Lowcountry.
