From FREE Family Days to stroller tours for parents with little ones and art activities for tots, Jepson Center offers exciting educational programs. Plus, every day is kids’ day in ArtZeum, the hands-on children’s space where kids can create masterpieces and interact with works of art.

Savannah Children’s Museum

Curious kids and their parents find this outdoor play space entertaining. Built in the vestiges of an old railroad station, it taps youngsters’ imaginations and creativity with 12-plus exhibits that let them spin, slides, build, make music, play make-believe, and play chess with life-sized pieces.

Georgia State Railroad Museum

Whoo! Whoo! All aboard for a museum experience where everyone can get up close with rail cars and locomotives of days gone by. You’ll hear the signature “clickety clack” as you and the kids ride on a restored locomotive or power a handcar along the tracks. Plus, you’ll see an 85-foot turntable (that still works) that was used to rotate locomotives to change their direction.

Tybee Island Marine Science Center

This family-friendly center will bring out the wonder in your kids while they learn more about creatures of the sea. You can all enjoy beach walks and marsh trees, and looking for various marine critters by sifting sand and using a seine net. Also catch Turtle Talks and Whale Tales and visit the gallery to check out the touch tanks and exhibits.

Oatland Island Wildlife Center

The rustic trails in this zoo-like preserve will take your family on an outdoor adventure through pristine marshes and maritime forests where animals like bobcats, bison, and birds of prey are exhibited in large natural habitats. Kids can also get amazingly close views of gray wolves, and see commonplace domestic animals (cows, sheep, goats, and the like) in the farm area.

Old Fort Jackson

See history come to life in battle reenactments at this 19th-century brick fort that is perched on the banks of the Savannah River. Explore the displays of weapons and tools used at the fort and relics from an ironclad ship that sank nearby, and time your visit to catch the cannon and musket firings.

Fort Pulaski National Monument

Gather your troops and visit Fort Pulaski to walk the parapets where Civil War soldiers defended Savannah; to see fascinating features like dikes, drawbridges, and a moat; and to hike or bike the numerous trails that meander through wooded landscapes and past pristine marshlands.

Fort McAllister State Park

Take about a 30-minute drive south to Fort McAllister State Park where one of the best-preserved earth fortifications from the Civil War still stands. With giant live oaks and surrounding salt marsh, the park is also a scenic place where your family can camp, boat, fish, or enjoy a laid-back picnic.

Take the kids out for a scoop or two of award-winning, homemade ice cream or a for a fountain treat at this landmark ice cream parlor. They will get a kick out of the retro soda fountain as well as the classic flavors and seasonal favorites that range from Strawberry Shortcake to Sugar Plum Fairy.

 Savannah's Beach

It’s hard to top time spent at the beach, and Tybee Island has much to offer no matter the season. Make it a day of frolicking in the sand and surf. Have a bird-spotting session along the North Beach Birding Trail. Check out the lighthouse and climb to the top for an amazing view of the island.  Take a cruise to spot dolphins at play or explore the waters via kayak. In short, have a blast!
