4th of July Happenings in Hilton Head Island
One of the most awaited holidays in the U.S is the fourth of July. This year marks the 243rd year of the United States Independence, uniting the 13 American colonies. American Independence days have always been associated with parades, barbecues, picnics, fairs, and fireworks display. Where better to celebrate the fourth of July than in Hilton Head Island? The Island is teeming with activities, with participants ranging from kids, teens and even adults!
Here are some of the events held at the Island during the 4th of July.
Hilton Head Firecracker 5k
While it sounds as if something is about to blow up, fear not. Firecracker 5k is a marathon at Shelter Cove Community Park. This event, along-side Family Fun Walk, gathers over 1,700 walkers and runners every year. It's the oldest and largest race in Beaufort County, and is also considered as one of the top 10 races in South Carolina. After the race, participants get to take part in a fun celebration featuring music, fresh fruit refreshments and prizes, and a percentage of the proceeds goes to local charities such as the Hilton Head Rotary Club and Hilton Head High School Cross Country Team.

Salute from the Shore
If you're not a huge fan of treading kilometers of walkway, there are other fun happenings available for you! One of which is the Salute from the Shore, a different approach to the traditional parade, where hundreds of people gather on the South Carolina beaches to express their support and appreciation to the U.S. Armed Forces. Watch in awe as a military aircraft flies over the beaches. The F-16s from the McEntire Joint National Guard Base will be seen in the air at approximately 1:00 in the afternoon. The exhibition will start at Cherry Grove and end at the sand bar on the May River located in Bluffton. Enjoy this remarkable display of our very own fighter jets in honor of our country's independence.

Bounce Houses
An activity kids will definitely enjoy! Jump and play around inside the inflatable bounce houses at Shelter Cove Town Center. They'll also have an opportunity to get their faces painted in the afternoon. Shannon Tanner and Clappy the Clown will also be in the area to hold a special performance in lieu of this special occasion.

Fireworks Display
Fireworks displays are probably the most awaited activity during Independence day. The burst of vibrant colors lighting the dark sky signifies the rebirth of America-- something that is very close to our hearts.
There are a lot of fireworks displays in the different areas of Hilton Head. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina holds one of the best displays in the Island, and begins after dusk. Other places you can visit are Harbour Town Marina, Skull Creek Area Marinas, The Town of Port Royal and Parris Island.

While there are numerous ways on how to celebrate the day of independence,
the events and activities present at Hilton Head Island are definitely the ones to look out for.
